Start k3b by clicking on it or
type at the prompt
> k3b
It comes up with a choice of 6 possible projects.
Users usually want "New Data CD Project"
or "New Data DVD Project"
|
 |
Click on project of your choice.
This opens a "Current Project"
window - lower
half of the K3B panel.
|
 |
Choose files to back-up from the
upper half where the filesystem is shown and drag them via mouse
into the lower window that says:'" Use drag'n'drop to add
files".
|
 |
Watch progress in the bar at the
bottom of the window. Usually it allows for about 4.4GB of data
for a DVD. A green bar shows how much has been taken up. When it
overflows the end of the bar turns BRIGHT RED, so you might want
to remove some files from the list in the above box until all is
green.
|
 |
Click
"Burn" in the upper left of the Current Project window.
It might check
and ask for a medium. Depending on the type of project created,
please add a
CD or DVD in the drive.
|
 |
To browse through the filesystem
in the upper part of the panel use the browser arrow tabs or
type in the path in the upper most line, e.g.
/F1a/Hemoglobin/project1
[ even better: make use of the "Filter"
function of the browser to look only for
"*.img" or "*.img.bz2" ]
|
 |
Since DVD's are rather limited,
it might be worth zipping the files beforehand - not
part of k3b. Can be done from command line:
>> bzip2 -v /F1a/Hemoglobin/project1/*.img
or
>> gzip -v
/F1a/Hemoglobin/project1/*.img
|
 |
There is a short cut to all of
this. Just use the standard browser "konqueror" on KDE based
computers - mark a group of files with mouse click and shift
click --> right click --> Actions --> Create data DVD with K3B.
Hit burn and you are on your way.
